The Oscillation - Fall EP

Format: 12
Release Date: 30th November 2011

The Oscillation present a new EP close on the heels of their second album “Veils” (ATL004). The title track is a remake of the swaggering b-music rock ‘n’ roll epic taken from the album - “Fall (Crawling Mix) ” is extended and re-gritted in a way that departs from the original in a more dancefloor direction. “Braindrainer” is a brand new track, an instrumental juggernaut of motorik power that is bursting with chaotic energy. “On The Run” channels the spirit of Pink Floyd and twists it into a brooding kosmische pulse. This track was recently feaured on the MOJO magazine “Dark Side Of The Moon” cover CD along with other remakes of classic Floyd by The Orb, Beak, Wolf People, John Foxx and more. Last but by no means least The Emperor Machine, aka Andy Meecham, has reworked “Telepathic Birdman” into a truly remarkable no-wave dancefloor classic. Perhaps something like Liquid Liquid and PiL would have sounded sharing a stage in early 80’s New York, Meecham has stripped back the original, allowing the thunderous bass full control to drive things along, adding trademark flourishes of analogue synthesizer and percussion.

A limited run of 300 copies.

Booze 1/2 LP

Format: LP
Release Date: 14th November 2011

BOOZE is the illegitimate offspring of Milo Smee (Chrome Hoof, Binary Chaffinch) and Demian Castellanos (The Oscillation). conceived during a few sweaty evenings in the studio whilst they took respite from their main projects, BOOZE channels the infidel urges of two musicians at the peak of their deviant prowess. From the wild flailing thrust of 'Mescal Talking' to the fevered dervish of 'Bronze Release', the prog stupor of 'The Last Straw' to the nocturnal locomotion and spontaneous combustion of 'Insanity Drive' (which featured on dc recordings 'death before distemper 2' compilation a few years ago), BOOZE is an untameable beast, swaggering uncontrollably through musical moods like a sordid being intent on unknowable deeds.

...It is almost three years since the release of The Oscillation's debut album 'Out Of Phase' for DC recordings. In those three years the band have played live all over the world to great acclaim and Demian Castellanos has clearly honed his musical vision. Whilst the debut album was dominated by stripped back grooves and motorik rhythms 'Veils' sees The Oscillation sound mature in numerous ways: song craft and introspection adding to the already rich sonic textures to create a powerful and varied new collections of songs. From the industrial pulse of 'Future Echo' to the haunted b-movie swagger of 'Fall', the disco dub fury of 'Telepathic Birdman' to the ecstatic melancholy of 'See Through You', the album features a remarkable spectrum of sonic experiences that range from beautifully crafted melodic songs to droning, no-wave chaos.

Music for the rainforests of the moon, DATE PALMS come straight out of Oakland CA - the duo of Marielle Jakobsons and Gregg Kowalsky. The two have birthed a suite of slowed-down music of the spheres, a canopy of glowing fog in which a heavy narcotic bass pulse keeps the roots straight into the earth. It’s a heady mix of alap paced violin phrases, jewel toned keys, harp swells, distorted tapes and ever present bass waves all crafted with precision detail in a humid space that leaves a dreamy imprint in the mind long after waking. Although separately Jakobsons and Kowalsky have made inroads into these types of landscapes before (Gregg with his Tape Chants series & Marielle with MYRMYR & Darwinsbitch), nothing really compares the world of Date Palms that the two created together with its perfect balance of micro & macro, inner & outer, cosmic & earth bound, casting some sort of old world magic on everyone within range. Date Palms released their acclaimed debut “Of Psalms” on Root Strata in 2010 and follow this with “Honey Devash”, released on Mexican Summer in August 2011.
