Date Palms / Alexander Tucker / Jasmina Maschina
Cafe Oto
10th November 2011
Tickets £7 on the door or £5 in advance from www.wegottickets.com
Music for the rainforests of the moon, DATE PALMS come straight out of Oakland CA - the duo of Marielle Jakobsons and Gregg Kowalsky. The two have birthed a suite of slowed-down music of the spheres, a canopy of glowing fog in which a heavy narcotic bass pulse keeps the roots straight into the earth. It’s a heady mix of alap paced violin phrases, jewel toned keys, harp swells, distorted tapes and ever present bass waves all crafted with precision detail in a humid space that leaves a dreamy imprint in the mind long after waking. Although separately Jakobsons and Kowalsky have made inroads into these types of landscapes before (Gregg with his Tape Chants series & Marielle with MYRMYR & Darwinsbitch), nothing really compares the world of Date Palms that the two created together with its perfect balance of micro & macro, inner & outer, cosmic & earth bound, casting some sort of old world magic on everyone within range. Date Palms released their acclaimed debut “Of Psalms” on Root Strata in 2010 and follow this with “Honey Devash”, released on Mexican Summer in August 2011.

OVAL / Imbogodom / Rodgers & Jones
Cafe Oto
16th January 2011
Tickets £10 on the door or £8 in advance from www.wegottickets.com
A rare chance to see and hear one of the true innovators of contemporary audio. All Time Low presents Markus Popp in his first London live performance since the release of his groundbreaking new work 'o'.
IMBOGODOM is Alexander Tucker's live representation of the reel to reel tape loop album he and New Zealander Daniel Beban produced for Thrill Jockey in 2010. Making illicit use of the BBC's antiquated machines at their Bush House studios (where Beban worked briefly before returning to NZ), their The Metallic Year album betrays a love of Delia Derbyshire, Terry Riley, Steve Reich and Alastair Galbraith.
Sally Rodgers and Steve Jones have a long career in electronic music. Recording as A Man Called Adam they’ve made music that for one reason or another has positioned them as genre-busting. hey are currently experimenting with a concept using installation technology, which they loosely describe as ‘talking with spaces’. Improvising with the sounds of the space they’re in, they generate new sound from recitation to the hidden sounds of obsolete technologies, and using real-time processing their interactions create unique audible ecosystems.

OREN AMBARCHI plays a very special one-off UK show at London's marvelous Corsica Studios. For the unitiated - Ambarchi's works are hesitant and tense extended songforms located in the cracks between several schools: modern electronics and processing; laminal improvisation and minimalism; hushed, pensive songwriting; the deceptive simplicity and temporal suspensions of composers such as Morton Feldman and Alvin Lucier; and the physicality of rock music, slowed down and stripped back to its bare bones, abstracted and replaced with pure signal.
PHILIP JECK works with old records and record players salvaged from junk shops turning them to his own purposes. His best known work "Vinyl Requiem" (with Lol Sargent): a performance for 180 '50's/'60's record players won Time Out Performance Award for 1993. He has also over the last few years returned to visual art making installations using from 6 to 80 record players including "Off The Record" for Sonic Boom at The Hayward Gallery, London [2000]. He truly does use record players as musical instruments, creating an intensely personal language that evolves with each added part of a record, creating geniunely moving and transfixing music. He has released many albums, most of which for the Touch Music imprint. See more here: philip jeck.com

Formed by singer/composer Gustav Ejstes circa 2000, the band have released six studio albums on labels such as Memphis Industries, Dolores Recordings, and the excellent independent Swedish imprint Subliminal Sound, (who have also released music from Trad Gras Och Stenar). This performance at London's Luminaire is their first show in London for a few years and promises to be very special!

BATTLESHIP POTEMKIN with a live soundtrack by ZOMBIE ZOMBIE
Venue: BFI Southbank,, London
Date: 28th May 2010
Tickets: £10 available from 6th April from bfi.org.uk
French duo Zombie Zombie have gained worldwide notoriety since the release of their debut album "A Land For Renegades" in 2008, both as a formidable live band and as music producers of the highest calibre. Through their use of vintage analogue synthesizers the band create intensely atmospheric music that has oft drawn comparison with the soundtracks of John Carpenter, the scores by Goblin for the Giallo films of Dario Argento and notably Gil Melle's soundtrack for The Andromeda Strain. Such references would not seem to obviously lead to working on Battleship Potemkin yet the band's passionate re-imagining of Eisenstein's silent classic has been heralded as a triumph following its debut in Paris at the end of 2009.

Träd Gräs Och Stenar (Trees, Grass & Stones) were forged out of the 'communitarian' underground scene in Sweden, that also included Harvester (later International Harvester) and Pärson Sound, which existed from 1967-1972. Their fusion of psychedelic folk and cosmic rock has been hugely influential on today's underground. Describing themselves as Sweden's "first minimalist rock group", the band sound as contemporary now as ever and will feature almost all original members for this rare London show.

Voice Of The Seven Thunders is the new project from Rick Tomlinson (formerly Voice Of The Seven Woods), an apocalyptic vision of monolithic riffs and primal rhythms that harnesses elements of 70's krautrock, bucolic English psychedelia, electric acid rock and kosmische textures. Playing in the wake of his new eponymous album (released Feb 2010 on his own Tchantinler Recordings label) he performs here with a full live band.
